Product Insight: Ho Ho Hum! Holiday Cheer for the Thrifty and Wealthy
Discounters and Luxury Stores Expected to Receive Financial Cheer- 19-Dec-2011
We separated out the stores that comprise both the Thomson Reuters Same Store Sales Department Store index, and additional high-end retailers from the Thomson Reuters Same Store Sales Index. These include JW Nordstrom, Saks, Coach, Tiffany’s and Williams Sonoma. These components of actual SSS results were used to create a unique Thomson Reuters Luxury Store SSS Index. The data was then compiled and graphed to show the trends in both the Thomson Reuters Same Store Sales Index and newly comprised Thomson Reuters Same Store Sales Luxury Store Index.

The Commitment of Traders (COT) report is a valuable tool in gauging market sentiment and near-term market direction. Data on corn futures’ trading reveal that companies on the consumption end of that industry have been hedging more actively in the recent past than have companies on the production end. This likely reflects commercial buyers’ fear of rising prices. At the same time, another trading segment, money managers, have been increasing net positions.
